Qui sommes-nous
Rural Urban Charitable Association (RUCA), registered in 2014, is a humanitarian charity offering a range of life-saving humanitarian solutions in the Gambia.
The mission of RUCA is to enhance livelihoods through poverty reduction strategies, disaster risk reduction and climate change copping strategies, emergency responses along with providing educational, health and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services to the most vulnerable and needy communities of the Gambia and neighboring countries.
Our vision is to ensure the communities in The Gambia are food secured, well educated, empowered, prosperous and healthy, for an enlightened Gambia.
Objectives:
• to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring all children have access to quality education
• to establish orphans/widows support and sponsorship programs
• to provide portable safe drinking water for the needy in both the rural and urban areas
• to organize iftar (food for fast breaking) during Ramadan at selected places based on need
• to provide EID-UL-ADHA sacrificial meat for the poor and the needy
• to provide basic nutritious food for the widows, orphans and needy families
• to embark on income generation activities such as horticultural gardening and rearing of small ruminants etc.
• to empower widows and other guardians of orphans through counseling, literacy and business skills training that will enable them to support their families.
Program activities:
• Water for Life Projects, which provides safe portable drinking water to communities
• Feed Me Program (Food Packages Distribution
• School Support Program: Distribution of School Kits Project which is meant to provide 250 poor needy children with school bags and school kits to enhance their learning environment
• Winter Program: Blankets were distributed at the Afang Lang School and Jackets distributed at the GADHOH school.
RUCA has assisted women community’s gardens in kaing Keneba, supported fire belting exercise in community forest to prevent the bus fire, and provided cash donations to women groups, provided garden equipment and inputs to women groups. RUCA has also provided water and sanitation facilities to some communities as part of our interventions. We now run shelter homes, schools and a reasonable mess that helps such needy young people. We also have our helpline offices spread throughout the country so one can approach us anytime they need help.
