Qui sommes-nous

In 1999 the married couple Inga-Verena and Klaus Wagner emigrated from Germany to Hungary. Soon the Wagners took in their first stray and injured dogs. This became a small private private dogs' home.

In October 2007, the association "Északbalatoni Ebmentö Egyesület" ("North Balaton Dogs' Aid"), was founded, registered in the Hungarian Association Register and recognized as a non-profit organisation.

Goals of the Association
• Establishment of a modern, species-appropriate animal home, which complies with EU regulations.
• Establishment of a network of local carers to look after the animals until a permanent home can be found for them.
• Expansion of mediation possibilities through further partnerships with animal welfare organizations in Germany, Austria and Hungary.

With appropriate support and approval from the authorities, the association could in the near future be in a position to carry out further higher level tasks:
• Awareness-raising and education of dog owners and the general population in the sense of "The dog as a friend".
• Youth work
• Events such as a flea market in the animal shelter, to raise money and increase public acceptance.

Activities:
• Together with the skinner - Mr. Sándor Szabó - the association has been looking after the dogs in the Balatonfüred Collection Centre. The animals are fed, vaccinated, sometimes castrated, chipped, registered and transferred to our animal shelter.
• The association, in close collaboration with Mr. Szabó, tries to find suitable new homes for the animals after the expiry of the 14-day holding period. We make sure there is a sufficient supply of food while they are being held in the Collection Centre.
• Together with volunteers and associated animal protection organizations, we look for suitable and responsible new homes for them in Hungary, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
• Another important aim of the Association is to offer advice to the Hungarian population. The association provides information on the advantages of castration and the proper way to keep dogs and cats. We advise on health issues and show alternatives to keeping dogs chained up, in line with the new Hungarian Animal Welfare Law, which came into force on 1 July 2010.
• The main objective is to bring Hungarian animal owners closer to compliance with the new Animal Welfare Law, to understand the animal as a friend, to respect it, to respect its needs and to protect its life.
• The Balatonfüred Collection Centre has been successfully transformed into a recognized animal shelter.

Inga Wagner is the President of North Balaton Dogs' Aid.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
