Qui sommes-nous
Zomba Urban Women Association (ZUWA) is a community based not for profit organisation and registered in 2011.
ZUWAs mission of work is committed to promote and advocate for the social and emotional well-being of vulnerable and marginalized young women by influencing positive change in the areas of HIV/AIDS; Gender and human rights and education empowerment.
ZUWAs strategic objectives are:
• To reduce cases of human rights violations among youth, women and children at community level in Zomba city
• To help reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS among youth , women and children
• To encourage the provision of care and love to AIDS sufferers
• To access the youths and women to appropriately balanced information and knowledge about democracy and human rights
Strategic focus on:
• Youth development and child protection programme
• Socio-economic empowerment programme
Activities:
Youth development and child protection:
• Peer education/life skills
• Procurement and distribution of sporting materials for sporting activities for youths
• Peer education on HIV/AIDS, SRH$R.
• Youth SRHR outreach sessions at community levels.
• Training of young people as peer educators and community health educators.
• Community awareness on HIV drug and alcohol abuse prevention.
• Awareness on entrepreneurship.
• Networking, partnerships and coordination
• Training in lobbying and advocacy
• Awareness campaign on VTC and teenage marriage
Education, participation and economic empowerment:
• Home based care program: Improve the lives of the disabled youth with the help of a physiotherapist. Disabled young people receive mattress, blankets and sleeping mate.
• ZUWA provided trainings in animal farming and providing them some of these animals as a start up capitals by giving them pigs to the youth to start their own farming.
• ZUWA introduced a tailoring course with an aim of empowering them with skills and working materials.
• ZUWA introduced back to school girls clubs. Through the intervention ZUWA constructed two free nursery schools, so that the vulnerable children can also access quality education. The intervention extended to adult and for this, ZUWA managed to open an adult literacy school (Sukulu Yakwacha) at Nkuntumanji areas
Project on protecting and promoting the rights of disabled women and girls living with albinism in Zomba and Machinga, Malawi.
Vitumbiko Nkhata is the Executive Director of the Zomba Urban Women Association (ZUWA).
For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Also we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
