Qui sommes-nous
Projekthilfe Gambia (Project Aid The Gambia), is a state registered German Charity/Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), whose objective is to supplement Government's efforts in providing humanitarian services to the targeted rural communities. Since 1988 our main target are the villages Jahaly and Madina. The organisation was founded in 1985 as "Projekthilfe Dritte Welt e.V." (Project Aid The Third World). The organisation based in Hattingen/Germany is a registered and state-approved charity NGO. In 2015 the organisation was re-named as "Projekthilfe Gambia e.V." (Project Aid The Gambia).
The daily work on the ground is done by our Gambian partner organisation "Project Aid The Gambia". In The Gambia it is registered as "International NGO A57". At our Main Office located in Manjai Kunda next to the capital city Banjul a small Gambian Management Team organizes the daily work in all of our projects.
Projects:
• In 1991 the organization built the "Jahaly Health Centre", the "Buschklinik" – in Germany also known as "Buschklinik Hattingen" or "Buschklinik Gambia". The "Jahaly Health Centre" serves about 45,000 patients per year. It is known as one of the country´s best rural health facilities. In 2009 it has been recognized by the Gambian government as a "model clinic". The clinic has several consultation rooms, two wards, a laboratory, a pharmacy, an ambulance car and a maternity ward.
• In 2004 Project Aid The Gambia opened the Jahaly/Madina Kindergarten with pre-school for 240 children right next to the "Jahaly Health Centre". The cost for construction and operation of the first three years were financed through a charity fundraising program of RTL German Television. Since 2014 the Kindergarten is ready to care for up to 480 children in a double-shift system.
• Vegetable garden projects and tractor service: around 1,000 women of Jahaly and neighbouring Madina work on four gardens with a total size of more than 100,000 m². The gardens were an initiative of the villagers. It was in the year 2002 that the women´s committees of the two villages requested support of the Project Aid. They had joined together with about 220 women and wanted to have a cooperative association. Project Aid agreed to dig 21 wells on 40,000 m² area, fence the gardens and take care of seeds and fertiliserWe also support four gardening projects for more than a thousand women from Jahaly and the neighboring village of Madina.
• Eco-friendly smoke-free ovens: In 2010 Project Aid started to develop eco-friendly ovens, which are meant to replace the traditional open fires people use to cook in the villages. The ovens save a lot of fire wood and make cooking more comfortable as the smoke does not longer cause diseases of eyes or irritations of the respiration path. They also decrease the risk of burn injuries among children. By now about 150 such ovens have been built in Jahaly and Madina.
• Overseas treatment for Gambian children: In June 2012 Project Aid The Gambia started a cooperation with the German charity "Friedensdorf (Peace Village) International". Sick and injured children are brought from The Gambia to Germany for often life-saving surgeries.
• In 2012 10,000 Moringa Oleifera trees were planted in the area behind Jahaly Health Centre and Kindergarten. Producing and selling "The Gambia Moringa" Products (leaves, tea, oil and soap) in Europe aims to finance all projects on the long term.
