About us

A Portée des Mains (APM asbl), founded in 2018, is a local organization of social works which is based in Democratic Republic of Congo. We have an office in Uvira: Uvira offive, 58 Av de la Paix, Q. Kimanga, South Kivu and in Goma: Goma office, N°018 Rue Mutete Mwenyemali, Himbi, Municipality of Goma, North - Kivu.
We are based in the country where the population continue to suffer the effect and consequences of wars. Access to education is limited and, in some place, non-existent because of war and the destruction of education infrastructure. Many families and children have bandies placed, are orphaned, live in poverty and lack educational opportunities. Currently with the fighting between the country's Armed Forces against the M23 aggressors, the population has been forced to move to refugee camps in North Kivu.

Our goal is to provide a preferential option for the poor in education and health care, we protect their lands, language and cultures.

Specific objectives:
• Strengthen cohesion, coexistence of communities and people and message of peace while practicing reconciliation in society.
• Promote agriculture and livestock.
• Raise awareness and train young people on entrepreneurship.
• Promote action research with a view to identifying the real needs and problems of environment or population likely to be supported and assisted.
• Promote formal and informal education.
• Contribute to the protection of the environment, biodiversity, natural resources and rare species.
• Promote civic education oriented towards cultural, economic and social aspects so that everyone can be an actor in sustainable or integrated development.
• Promote vulnerable and/or needy people, namely refugees, people displaced by war, the marginalized, the hungry widows and orphans as well as women and children in difficult situations.
• Promote good governance.
• Fight against the spread of STDs/STIs and other endemic and epidermal diseases.
• Build, develop and maintain socio-economic infrastructure: roads, hospitals, schools, markets and other infrastructure of community interest.

Our activities:
• We support children orphaned by war, we educate children who were recruited into armed groups in their rehabilitation within the life and teaching them trades.
• We educate the communities about their rights, and fight against marginalization, discrimination and exploitation abuse.
• Construction of a school in Fizi territory to enable poor children to access their basic rights. With the support of an American Christian organization called: International Ministries, IM, https://internationalministries.org/step-africa-children-of-peace/
• We are helping displaced people from the Mugunga camps in North Kivu, by supervising children through socio-cultural activities but also by assisting raped women who are victims of this barbarity caused by the M23.
• Now we have a school and are building and a small health center for helping our community and especially those children who are enrolled in our school and to provide health care services to populations in need. The work is tough and asks the support of everybody for the common progress to fight against poverty.

Sango Shila is the President of A Portée des Mains (APM asbl).
